Where can I find caregiver respite?
A list of resources that assist caregivers in Middle Tennessee in finding respite that works for them.
Caregivers are a vital part in keeping aging and disabled individuals living independently in their communities. Often the role of a caregiver can be equal parts rewarding and exhausting, leaving the caregiver with little time for themselves. Respite services allow caregivers the chance to take time to either accomplish other tasks or just to recharge, without worrying about their loved one. There are several resources available here in Middle Tennessee for caregivers seeking respite services:
- Through the Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP) the Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) provides referrals, educational resources, and funding to support the needs of caregivers. You may elect to pursue the GNRC Reimbursement Voucher Program, which reimburses the caregiver up to $216 per month for the cost of hiring a respite provider. To learn more about the program and begin the screening process to enroll, call our helpline at (615)255-1010 or (866)836-6678.
- The Tennessee Respite Coalition (TRC) works with in-home caregivers to select services, facilities, programs and self-care plans that best fit their needs. Beyond offering information on resources, TRC offers a Family Directed Respite Voucher Program to help off-set the costs of hiring in-home respite. TRC also facilitates the Senior Volunteer Companion program, providing a safe environment for frail and vulnerable individuals who rely on a full-time caregiver. Call the TRC helpline for more information about their available services at (615)269-8687.
- AgeWell Middle Tennessee facilitates an easy to use online Directory of Services for a variety of topics specific to the needs of aging people, including caregiver respite services. Additionally, AgeWell Middle Tennessee offers Eldercare Coach, which helps caregivers navigate eldercare topics and services. Those seeking more information can call the AgeWell Helpline at (615)353-4235.
Individuals who qualify for TennCare CHOICES or state funded OPTIONS may also qualify for in-home services that compliment the efforts made by caregivers. Visit the articles linked above for more information about each program and how to qualify.
